Eat Pray Dance

Thank you for coming to Eat Pray Dance, an original production brought to you by At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy  and NAFA School of Arts Management Dance & Theatre. This collaboration between two different academies brings two institutions and their artists in one performance. The NAFA dancers take inspiration from the chefs of At-Sunrice to develop a site specific work, created especially for the space of At-Sunrice. Conceived by At-Sunrice's founder, Dr Kwan Lui and DrFil of  NAFA, together with Asst Faculty Manager Chef Dean Yassin, Director of Craft, Service Excellence & Partnerships, Chef Sebastien Lefort and Director of Leisure Academy & Events, Ms Kori Millar, Eat Pray Dance aims to diversify the audiences of both schools and increase the awareness of the culinary and performing arts.  Since this is a site specific work, we'll be thrilled if you take pictures, videos and share them through #EatPrayDance #At-Sunrice #NAFAdance. We hope you enjoy the production!

CAST (in order of appearance)

INTRODUCTION

Guests are separated into 2 groups which will go through the entire school, viewing the different performances. (Follow the lights, to get the best experience)

SCENE 1

Dinner-table. We explore the relationships, both created and broken at the dinner table. Sometimes, the flavours we taste are affected by the company we keep.

SCENE 2

History. We revisit the colourful history of the spice trade, which has sparked wars and inspired art for millennia. When the east and west collide, cultures influence food and vice versa.

SCENE 3

Dream. We dance for, travel with, dream of  food. Even as we dine, we discuss what to eat next. The centrepiece of the this scene is a living canapé.

FINALE

La Mian. We observe the making of hand-pulled noodles as dancers become a metaphor of the proteins being manipulated in the dough.
